In 1994, the USA hosted the FIFA World Cup, marking a turning point in American soccer’s global profile. Coached by Bora Milutinović, the squad featured key players such as Tony Meola, Alexi Lalas, Tab Ramos, Eric Wynalda, John Harkes, and Earnie Stewart. Despite being underdogs, the USA impressed in the group stage: they drew with Switzerland (1–1), beat Colombia (2–1) in a famous upset, and narrowly lost to Romania. Advancing to the Round of 16, they faced eventual champions Brazil, losing 1–0 to a Bebeto goal.
