1998/99 – Following the 1998 World Cup, Scotland, still under Craig Brown, entered Euro 2000 qualifying. Veterans like Colin Hendry, Gary McAllister, and John Collins led the squad, while younger players such as Barry Ferguson and Allan Johnston were integrated. Results were mixed, with competitive performances against strong opposition but dropped points against minnows.
1999/2000 – Scotland finished second in their Euro 2000 qualifying group, behind England, securing a playoff spot. They faced England in a tense two-legged tie but were eliminated on aggregate. Despite the disappointment, the campaign showed Scotland could compete against top European sides while blooding new talent.
