2000/01: Under David O’Leary, Leeds enjoyed a thrilling campaign, finishing 4th in the Premier League and reaching the UEFA Champions League semi-finals, where they were eliminated by Valencia. The young, exciting squad — featuring Rio Ferdinand, Harry Kewell, Alan Smith, Mark Viduka, and Lee Bowyer — played fast, attacking football that captivated fans.
2001/02: Leeds finished 5th, narrowly missing out on Champions League qualification. Despite strong performances, mounting financial pressures from heavy transfer spending began to show. O’Leary was sacked after the season.
This period marked Leeds’ last great era before financial collapse and their rapid decline from the Premier League.
